Source material of Museum of remembrances are anonymous photographs, which
can be found in garrets and fleamarkets. Photographs without captions.
A photographic universe of private histories and biographies.
This project deals with the memory of the spectators. The scientific approach
of this project can be seen as an experiment to get memories (in the sense
of the Oral-History) triggered by photographs. From the artistic point-of-view
the project can be seen as Spurensicherung (securing traces) to reconstruct
the memories of historical events.
Museum of remembrances is a work in progress since 1997 and has various
forms of participation.
"Museum
of Remembrances - European Version"
(Internet). This WEB-site has taken part at the Ostranenie97 - the Bauhausfestival
in Dessau and at ciber@art Festival in Valencia also 1997. Museum of Remembrances
got a Web Book award 1998.
"Museum
of Remembrances - Photohistories of Burgenland"
(Internet and exhibition in Burgenland/Austria). The WEB site was nominated
for the Internet competition of the Stuttgarter Filmwinter 1999.

of Remembrances - Calaf Project"
(Internet and installation in the public space Calaf/Catalonia)

Since now Museum of remembrances got 250
texts; fragments, detailed discriptions, essays, few words. This memories
of the people of five countries and two continents are now the source
material for a new project of Museum of remembrances:
Photo Album in progress
Visitors of this Website,
artists and scientists are invited to send photographs (anonymous, found
footage or made for the project) as a comment to one of the 250 textual
remembrances. The "Photo Album in progress" extends the discourse about
memory and remembrance by a visual dimension.
The projects of "Museum of remembrances" provoke a reciprocal
game between photographs and contemporary witnesses. These fragments are
like a patch of a map of meanings of our history and our memories.
